What I learned from getting the patent approved (part 1)

Know your counterparts

1. You have 100% knowledge of your patent, but most likely the consultant you hire only has 80% if you’re lucky, and the patent Examiner could be worse. Having said that, it is worthwhile paying to save the 80% of effort, and time to window.

2. And when they typically own 4~6 projects simultaneously, their learning pace is 1/5 of yours.

3. One of your job is to bridge the 20% gap of them, FAST. Through discussion with your consultant and the submitted documents to the examiner.

4. If AI/ML technology is included, expect more effort be invested

The lessons learned – short version

1. Always start with the Provisional, $70 only if qualified

2. Claims – The most important part of the patent is the claims, the claims set forth and define the patent’s scope of exclusive rights.

3. Your consultant may not share the same goal as you

Good luck to your application!

I’ll come back for part 2, soon.
